I am so excited for the 2024-2025 Mystery Cowl Knit-Along!
This year's cowl theme is TRIANGLES and will be two-color sampler-style cowl in Worsted Weight (CYCA 4) yarn. Pair two colors that are highly contrasted, or go subtle with colors that are have some similarities (tone, shade, or are near one another on the color wheel). We are going to make lots of fun triangle motifs in our favorite colors. Can you say "Happy Knitting!"?!
The cowl is worked seamlessly in the round and features stranded colorwork and a little bit of mosaic knitting. I would suggest this project for advanced beginner and intermediate knitters. As always, I will be providing tutorial videos for many of the techniques in the project.
How does the mystery cowl KAL work? I've designed a gorgeous cowl and you have no idea what it looks like! Beginning on December 26th and ending on January 1st, I will release daily clues that contain a new section of the pattern. There will be about 12-16 rounds of knitting per clue. To receive the updates, purchase the pattern on Ravelry and check back every day for the new clue. You can knit at your own pace or try to work each clue on the day it's released. Join in on the fun in my Ravelry Group and then be sure to register for the Zoom Cowl Show-Off and New Year's Party after the Knit-Along.
The finished measurements of the cowl are approximately 23" x 13"/58 cm x 33 cm
Materials needed:
Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) 24”/60 cm circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge, US 6 (4 mm) 24"/60 cm circular needle or one size smaller than size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 18 sts and 22 rounds = 4"/10 cm in stranded colorwork in the round.
Other Materials: stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle, row counter (if desired).
Yarn: 150 yards each of 2 colors of worsted weight (CYCA 4) yarn.
My suggestions for choosing colors:
Two highly contrasted colors (light/dark) would look bold and modern (examples: black and white / dark brown and light pink / navy and chartreuse green).
Two solid colors that are not highly contrasted (similar light tint or dark tone to one another) but are in different hues (colors) would be a more subtle combination.
Two colors that are close to one another on the color wheel would have a subtle tonal look (examples: yellow and orange / pink and purple / blue and green).
One solid color and one multicolor or self-stripe yarn would look so interesting and artsy. Use contrasting colors to make sure you can see the stitch pattern.
I made two cowls in these yarns:
Yarn Snob Yarns "A Wondrous Worsted" (2 skeins/1 of each color)
100% Superwash Merino Wool; 273 yds/100g ball.
Cascade Yarns "Cascade 220 Superwash" (2 skeins/1 of each color)
100% Superwash Merino Wool; 220 yds/100g ball.
