But I can still pretend I'm somewhere dusted in fresh snow with the fireplace roaring while I wear this hat! The undulating cables are a treat to knit and beautiful to look at, as are the other fine details of this accessory. Cast on and become captivated by the construction of this topper: It's worked on its side!
*Construction Details*
This hat body is worked flat with cables and an I-cord edging. After the body piece is worked it is either seamed or bound off together (knitter’s choice), and then stitches are picked up and the crown in worked in the round. Body pattern is written as well as charted. Crown instructions are written.

Purl
Slipping stitches
Working cables
Bind off (if you are working a provisional cast-on, bind off isn’t necessary)
Seaming or working a 3-needle bind off.

Adult Sizes: Small/Medium (Large/Extra Large)
Finished measurements: Approx. 18 (21)”/45 (53) cm circumference & 8 (9)”/20 (23) cm depth.
Yarn: 150 (180) yards of heavy worsted weight (CYCA #4) yarn.
Samples made in:
Clinton Hill Cashmere “Bespoke” (100% Cashmere; 99 yds/50 g) in “Lavender” (shown in Small/Medium) and “Camel” (shown in Large/Extra Large) – 2 balls per hat.
HiKoo SimpliNatural (40% baby alpaca, 40% fine merino wool, 20% mulberry silk; 183 yds/100 g) in “Raffi” color 51 (shown in Large/Extra Large), 1 skein.
Gauge: 16 stitches and 22 rows = 4 in stockinette stitch.
Needles: US 9/5.5 mm needle and 16"/40cm circular needle and DPN. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Additional materials: Stitch marker, cable needle, tapestry needle, row counter, size US I/5.5 mm crochet hook for provisional cast on (optional), scrap yarn for provisional cast on (optional).
